Refinancing

Refinance your home loan with confidence — Australia-wide.

If your home loan is more than a couple of years old, there is a reasonable chance a sharper deal exists. As your refinance broker, Finance Wealth benchmarks your current loan against the market, negotiates where we can, and manages the switch end to end — or tells you honestly if staying put is the smarter move.

Why Australian homeowners refinance

Refinancing simply means replacing your current loan with a better one — either with your existing lender or a new one. The most common reasons are to secure a lower interest rate and reduce monthly repayments, to access equity for renovations or an investment property, to add features like an offset account, or to consolidate higher-interest debts into the mortgage.

It can pay to review your rate

Lenders sometimes offer better rates to new customers than to existing ones, so a loan that suited you a few years ago may no longer be the most suitable option today. Depending on your circumstances, a switch may help reduce your repayments or improve your loan's features — which is why we recommend reviewing your loan every one to two years, or whenever your circumstances change.

What does refinancing cost?

Refinancing is not free, but the costs are usually modest next to the potential savings. Typical costs include a discharge fee from your current lender, possible application or valuation fees from the new lender, and government mortgage registration charges. Lenders also run cashback or fee-waiver promotions from time to time, which can offset much of the cost. We lay out every dollar before you decide.

Our refinance process

First we review your existing loan — rate, features, remaining term and any break costs. Then we benchmark it against suitable options from our panel of 60+ lenders and model the actual savings after switching costs. If the numbers stack up, we prepare and lodge the application and manage it through to settlement, which typically takes around two to four weeks. Your new lender pays out the old loan, and your repayments simply move across.

The entire process can be handled remotely — by phone, video call and secure digital document exchange — so we can help you refinance wherever you are in Australia.

When refinancing may not be worth it

A good broker will sometimes tell you not to switch. If you are partway through a fixed rate, break costs can outweigh the savings. If your equity position has tightened, Lenders Mortgage Insurance could apply again on the new loan. And if you plan to sell soon, the effort may not pay off. We run these numbers honestly — our job is a better outcome for you, not a transaction for its own sake.
