Your first home in Australia, with a broker in your corner.
Buying your first home is equal parts exciting and overwhelming. Finance Wealth helps first home buyers across Australia understand their borrowing power, claim every grant and concession they are entitled to, and choose a loan that will still suit them years after settlement.
How we help first home buyers
Most first home buyers have never applied for a loan before, and the process is full of jargon, deadlines and fine print. We translate all of it. We will tell you what you can realistically borrow, what your repayments look like at different price points, and which government support you qualify for — before you fall in love with a property.
Because we compare more than 60 lenders, we can also match you with lenders whose policies are friendlier to first home buyers — for example on genuine savings, gifted deposits or guarantor arrangements.
Grants and concessions vary by state and territory
Every Australian state and territory runs its own first home owner grant and stamp duty concessions, with different payment amounts, property value caps and residency rules. Because the settings differ — and change regularly — the figures below are shown as Victorian examples only. We will always confirm the exact grants and concessions available in the state or territory where you are buying before you rely on them.
Example: Victorian First Home Owner Grant (FHOG)
As a Victorian example, the Victorian First Home Owner Grant is a one-off payment of $10,000 for eligible first home buyers who buy or build a brand-new home valued at $750,000 or less. It is not available for established homes, and at least one applicant must be an Australian citizen or permanent resident. You generally need to live in the home as your principal place of residence for at least 12 months.
Other states and territories have their own versions of this grant with different amounts and caps — we will walk you through the one that applies to you.

Stamp duty is often the biggest upfront cost after the deposit — and for first home buyers it can be heavily reduced. As a Victorian example, eligible first home buyers in Victoria currently pay no stamp duty at all on homes valued up to $600,000, with a sliding-scale concession applying to homes valued between $600,001 and $750,000, provided you intend to live in the property.
Every state and territory sets its own stamp duty rates and first home buyer concessions, so your entitlement depends on where you buy. We factor the applicable concessions into your budget from day one.
The Australian Government 5% Deposit Scheme
Formerly known as the First Home Guarantee, the Australian Government 5% Deposit Scheme is a national scheme that lets eligible first home buyers purchase with as little as a 5% deposit without paying Lenders Mortgage Insurance, because the government guarantees part of the loan to the lender.
Since October 2025 the scheme has offered unlimited places with no income caps, though property price caps still apply and vary by location. Settings are reviewed by the government, so we confirm the current rules and participating lenders before you apply.
Your deposit and the costs people forget
Your deposit is not the only cash you will need. Budget for conveyancing, building and pest inspections, loan and valuation fees where they apply, and moving costs. If saving a full deposit is the barrier, a family guarantor arrangement — where a parent offers equity in their own property as additional security — can sometimes bridge the gap, and we will walk the whole family through how it works and the risks involved.
